For the past 10 years, God has led us to walk with missionaries in the process of going to the mission field. We have lovingly participated in coaching processes, budgeting, and training activities. We have also laughed and cried with them on a personal level.
When we are able to send a new missionary to the field, we feel a sense of joy and accomplishment, but we also have doubts about their arrival and permanence in the field. We know that God goes before them (Deuteronomy 31:8), but as a church and a mission agency, we long to care for these sheep sent out in the midst of wolves (Matthew 10:16).
In the year 2022, God began to move our hearts towards this initial stage that our missionaries live and to want to support the development of a bridge of arrival for our missionaries. We understood that in order to do this, we could not imagine the missionary life from home, but that we had to live it ourselves, from the process of applying to be a missionary, raising funds, preparing, leaving our country, arriving in the field and staying there. Our intention is to be close to these missionaries, to understand their reality and to accompany them more closely.
Recently, Comibam published the results of a study that revealed the emotions of our missionaries in the field. Results that confirm our call.
- Uprootedness: 37.3%
- Disappointment: 40.5 %
- Frustration: 42.2 %
- Impatience: 39.5 %
- Lonelyness: 40.5 %
- Stress of combining ministry work with family life: 84.8 %
- Suicidal thoughts: 38.4 %
David and I have a desire to serve and bring more missionaries to Asia to reach the unreached places so that people who have never had the opportunity to hear about Jesus can hear His name at least once in their lives. God has called us to be cross-cultural missionaries in Asia, to learn about the Asian culture, to raise our son there, to understand the difficulties of ministry in Asia, to know firsthand the challenges of arriving as missionaries, and to accompany more closely our missionary brothers and sisters who have accepted God's call to reach these hard-to-reach places. Another part of our work is to explore options and alternatives for supporting the missionaries. We have experienced first hand the difficulty of raising funds, which, while we do not want to take responsibility away from the Church and the people committed to God's mission, can be shared with other means of support.
Our main goal is to listen to God's voice and follow in His footsteps. We are confident that He will show us the way and open the doors wherever He wants. In the meantime, we will continue to serve our good God in every opportunity He gives us and pray that you will join us in our desire to see the nations come to know our Lord and Savior.
